The MEE Report II:
In Search of Love:
Dating Violence
Among Urban Youth

The interviews are raw and riveting, and are just what educators, service providers, and policy-makers need to see -- real life -- in the words of the people (especially
females) who are living it every day. Anyone who denies that we have reached a crisis level in this country need only spend some time viewing the tape. It brings the stark reality right into your living room. It leaves you feeling unsettled and disturbed no matter how comfortable your sofa is!

The research and video were produced in collaboration with the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Minority Health Professions Foundation in Atlanta, to examine intimate dating violence among Black urban teens, ages 16-18. While violence and aggressive behaviors clearly do not characterize the majority of dating relationships among urban youth, reports of their increased occurrence, and acceptance by so many of the focus group participants should be a serious concern to all.

MEE offers a customized workshop using this video, where you can learn first-hand how young urban males and females see each other and define their relationships. The sessions also address the underlying factors, which contribute to dating violence and identify the provocative acts that may lead to violent and aggressive behavior. The video helps facilitate discussions with teens on dating violence.
