About the Campaign
The Better Together Campaign is helping to raise awareness of the existence of Community Health Workers (CHW’s) and their role in facilitating the community’s access to health and social services. By letting County residents know how CHW’s are working in and for our community, we hope residents will be more open to conversations with a CHW when approached, and even seek one out if available.
The goal of the Better Together Campaign is to ensure that vulnerable, marginalized and underserved people of color understand:
- That CHW’s exist, what they are and what they do
- What their various job titles are called within different organizations
- How connecting with a CHW could support better health and life outcomes (and help you meet your needs, based on their ability to link you to various services)
- How community members can contact (access) a CHW

We know that immigrant, ethnic, marginalized and minority populations are facing the highest health and social disparities. We will engage lower-income individuals and families across all races, gender identities and sexuality; refugees; individuals who are undocumented or out-of-status; Bhutanese, African and other immigrant communities; people experiencing homelessness; Latinx residents; members of the LGBTQ+ community; families who live in public housing; and non-native English speakers. With lived experience, CHW’s can help community members from similar backgrounds and situations access important health information, high-quality healthcare and resources like insurance coverage, social services and food and housing support. CHW’s can be caring, trusted connectors to people, programs and services that can help overcome the challenges their peers face.
Community Health Workers is an Initiative of the Allegheny County Health Department
