Community Engagement Strategies: Best Communication Practices
for the Primary Prevention of ATOD Misuse

Many agencies and organizations are struggling to engage members of communities affected differently by the opioid epidemic and the war on drugs with substance misuse prevention messaging, due to misinformation and stigma related to substance misuse, ineffective outreach and engagement strategies, low levels of trust in government institutions and other challenges.

During this keynote, MEE will share how state and county prevention networks in any size community can enhance their primary prevention efforts by using community engagement strategies for hard-to-reach audiences, with low levels of confidence even in well-meaning initiatives.

These strategies and tactics will help them grow their presence in both digital (online) and grassroots (off-line) spheres to educate skeptical and suspicious communities and to mobilize partners and stakeholders, increasing both impact and effectiveness of their substance misuse prevention and reduction efforts.
